Place tuna cans under yardsticks to help with elevation in the sword dance.
Strengthen floppy arms by practicing with light wrist weights or spend time holding a yardstick evenly above your head. Make sure your hands are spaced correctly to get the proper "feel".
Vinyl dance spots or masking tape can help dancers learn to land in the same place every time in the fling or travel the correct distance and direction in the sword dance.
Practice in front of a full length wardrobe mirror to see where your arms and feet are and to check your positions and turnout.
The kitchen counter, back of the sofa, or even the deck railing makes a great barre to practice movements and positioning to improve technique.
Laying in the "frog" position while watching television helps stretch the hips to improve turnout.
